Facts About France Mountains in France 2010

France is one of the most diverse geographical regions in the whole of Europe with several mountainous regions on its border and many mountains on its land. France is the home of four major mountain ranges Massif, Alps, Jura and Pyrenees. Massif range of mountains are the oldest range of mountains that are famous for large numbers of extinct volcanoes. Jura mountains are popular for its limestone rocks and the mountain range runs along the border of Switzerland north of Lake Geneva.




Mount Alps is the most famous mountain range not only in the Europe but all over the world. Mont Blanc, peak 4807 meters, is the highest peak of Mount Alps and it is the highest peak in the European Region. Above 2800 meters, snow is the permanent feature of the French Alps. Mount Alps stretches from southern eastern border of France along the Lake Geneva. Pyrenees mountain range is situated in the south west of France on the border of Spain. The highest peak of Mount Pyrenees stands at 3400 meters. The Pyrenees range runs along from the Atlantic Coast to the Mediterranean coast.
